At our meeting last night we had a huge turnout and at least one third of the people were new members. We discussed shutter priority, showed some of the pictures we took at our aperture workshop from the previous weekend and showed people how to email pictures.
As usual our meeting begins with a cup of tea, this gives people a chance to network and discuss the photography issues and tips. Then we had two short videos which explained the concepts behind the shutter priority setting on their cameras. Basically shutter priority is when the operator sets the speed that they want to camera to operate at and the camera set all of the other parameters. Why would you use it, for example in a sports setting, the user might want to get sharp shots and this would require a shutter speed of around 1/500 of a second. The operator dials this setting in and the camera will determine the best aperture for this time interval. After the videos we had a question and answer session.
The next section of the meeting was taken up by demonstrating to people how to email their pictures for competitions. The basic steps are; start a new email, type in the recipient’s name and a subject, then attach the photo to the email. If you are asked to if you want to turn it into a photo email, select no. Also the rules for naming the photograph for competitions are title + name.jpg. For example, if the title of my picture was Autumn Day then I would rename the picture as follows:
Autumn Day Francis Foley.jpg
You can rename pictures by right clicking and selecting rename.
At the meeting we decided to meet next Sunday morning around 11.45 am at the bird sanctuary car park at Blennerville Bridge. This will give people the opportunity to use the shutter priority mode on their cameras as there is a charity passing around that time. There are also a number of other photo opportunities in the same location such as the Windmill, the Swan Ponds, the Barge and there is also lots of wild birds in the area and a very big flock of Pale Bellied Brent Geese roost nearby.
Our next meeting is scheduled for October 11th, at this meeting we will have a workshop on Shutter Speed and explain also how to email your pictures to the Competition Secretary. For further information visit our website at http://ardfertcameraclub.weebly.com
