Big attendances are now the norm at our club and last night’s meeting was no different. One of our new members and a former founder member of Listowel Camera Club was on hand to give a presentation of his students work and the meeting ended with the a discussion on splitting the categories of Photographer of the Year and the results of the competition held at the last meeting.
John Stack is a new member of our club and a highly experienced photographer; he was involved in the formation of the Listowel Camera Club and also a former national competition winner. He brought along a video presentation consisting of 90 shots of his transition year student’s work. All of this work was taken on relatively inexpensive point and shoot cameras that cost around €100. The standard of the photos were a revelation for many of the members and were gobsmacked at what can be achieved with these consumer devices and a little manipulation with photographic software.
Some of the photographs on display were national award winners and many made short lists for national awards. Johns’ presentation concluded with a discussion on how this work was achieved and the merits of some of the better photographs.
The next step in the meeting was a discussion on splitting the categories for Photographer of the Year and also for club photo competitions. As directed at the AGM we split the membership into two categories namely advanced and novice. From the floor many people felt that a third intermediate category was necessary. To this end the committee will poll the members to get feedback on what they would like to get out of the club this poll will be emailed very shortly. It was also decided that the next competition on December 6th will have a very broad theme: “What makes me happy”. Our next meeting will be am indoor workshop on still life.
The results of the competitions are:
Advanced
1. Tommy Toomey – The Big Wheel
2. Ian Willey – Going South
Novice
1. Tracey Fitzgerald – Connor Pass
2. Bernard Fitzgerald – On Golden Sands
The complete results will be published on our website and I hope to see you all in 2 weeks for our workshop meeting on November 22nd. For further information visit our website at http://ardfertcameraclub.weebly.com
