Two meetings into the camera club season and it has gotten off to a roaring success with a host new members joining. The theme for the first meeting was “10 Minutes from Home” and we had a very close battle on the night with the top spot being shared by Maura Miller and Laura Horgan. We decided to bring forward the second meeting by a week so that we would not clash with Killarney Club meeting and allow our members to visit.
Transport was the theme for the second meeting and again it was a very close contest with the top honours going to Lello Polli who had a very interesting picture of a man driving a donkey pulling a car overladen with concrete beams. The second spot went to spot went to the master himself Dillon Boyer with a beautiful picture of a train in the snow covered Alpine region of Switzerland. Third place went to newcomer Tom Toomey for a picture taken much closer to home of a rusty bicycle in a local bog.
Our next meeting scheduled to be held on September 29th will be an Open Competition with cash prizes going to the top 3 places. Get out their, getting snapping and come along to the camera club, you never know you might leave with more money in your pocket than when you arrived.
At the second meeting we also held the AGM and two new people have come on board the committee to act joint treasurers namely Joe O'Brien and Paul Keeling. We have plans to buy a new projector and a wide screen and in the future to invest in studio lighting equipment. This equipment will permit the club to run projected images competitions and also to practice more advanced photography techniques.
This weeks photography tip is is to use lines to lead the viewer to the point of interest. For example, if the focal point of a image is a house you picture could include the driveway into the house so that your eye follow the road to the house.
For further information contact Francis Foley on 087 905 4161 or [email protected] or visit our website at http://ardfertcameraclub.weebly.com. Remember that we always welcome new members and guests to the club which has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, no need to have a fancy camera, come along and learn how to take better pictures.
