We have now reached the penultimate meeting of the 2010/11 season and I must say it has been an extremely successful one for the club. We have gain at least a dozen new members, held our inaugural exhibition in Tralee Library, gone on two outings and had two workshops by professional photographer David Hogan.
We hope to build on this success in the forthcoming season and to this end we will be joining both the Irish Photographic Federation and the Southern Association of Camera Clubs. This will allow our members to enter national competitions and get internationally recognised photographic qualifications. We are planning to get involved in activities on Culture Night which will take place on Friday September 23rd.
The club will be taking a break for the month of August, we can recharge our batteries, get in some good summer photography and be ready for the new season which will kick off on the 8th of September. I will be posting full details of the program for 2011/12 season on our website ardfertcameraclub.weebly.com.
Steve Baker is within a whisker of being crowned photographer of the year, he is on 140 points and his nearest rival is Francis Foley on 116, therefore Steve must only score more than 6 points in the next two competitions to be declared the winner. The winner of our self-portrait competition was Ian Willey who took a fantastic picture of himself smoking his trademark cigar. In second place we had Margaret Raggett who took a wonderful candle lit picture of herself and in third place we had Donal Stack with a beautifully composed shot. The two competitions that remain on the calendar are the theme Summer and Open. The Open competition has a €5 entry fee with a cash prize for the winner.
Remember at this time of the year we have gloriously long days however we tend to have a lot of harsh light from around 1 hour after dawn until 1 hour before sunset. Landscape photographers call the hours at dawn and dusk the golden hours because at those times it is possible to take the most spectacular photographs of beautiful scenery. For further information contact Francis Foley on 087 905 4161 or [email protected] or visit our website at http://ardfertcameraclub.weebly.com. Remember that we always welcome new members and guests to the club which has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, no need to have a fancy camera, come along and learn how to take better pictures.
